Alabama is gearing up for its annual “Don’t Drop It on Alabama” Spring Cleanup this April, a statewide event aimed at reducing litter and promoting environmental responsibility. Organized by Alabama PALS (People Against a Littered State), this campaign unites all 67 counties, cities, and volunteer groups to make a meaningful impact on their communities.
For the 2025 edition, more than 140 municipalities, counties, and volunteer groups have already pledged their participation, demonstrating a strong commitment to maintaining Alabama’s natural beauty.
A Major Initiative for a Cleaner Alabama
The “Don’t Drop It on Alabama” Spring Cleanup is one of many environmental efforts led by Alabama PALS. The organization is also responsible for other significant initiatives, including:
- Alabama Coastal Cleanup – Focused on cleaning up Alabama’s coastal areas.
- Alabama Clean Campus Program – Encouraging schools to maintain clean and green campuses.
- Adopt-A-Mile and Adopt-A-Stream Programs – Engaging communities in preserving roadsides and waterways.
These programs are supported by partnerships with businesses, state associations, and environmental agencies, all dedicated to raising awareness about litter prevention and fostering a culture of volunteerism.
Coca-Cola United Leads the Charge as Title Sponsor
For 2025, Coca-Cola United has once again stepped in as the Title Sponsor of the “Don’t Drop It on Alabama” Spring Cleanup. The beverage company has played a key role in expanding the event’s focus beyond litter removal to include a stronger emphasis on recycling plastic bottles and aluminum cans.
“Coca-Cola United is proud to serve as the Title Sponsor for the 2025 cleanup,” said Andy Britton, Director of Public Affairs and Communications for Coca-Cola United. “Through our partnership with Alabama PALS, we are making significant progress toward a world without waste.”
Strong Partnerships Power the Cleanup Effort
The success of the Spring Cleanup is made possible through Alabama PALS’ collaboration with various organizations. PALS Sustaining Partners include:
- Alabama Department of Transportation
- Alfa Insurance
- Vulcan Materials Co.
- Honda
- The Association of County Commissions of Alabama
- The Poarch Band of Creek Indians
- Alabama Farmers Cooperative
These partnerships ensure that resources and support are available to keep Alabama’s environment clean and sustainable.
Alabama Community Colleges Join the Movement
Alabama PALS continues to work with the Alabama Community College System (ACCS), encouraging students and faculty from 24 community and technical colleges to participate in the cleanup.
David Walters, representing ACCS, emphasized the importance of student involvement: “The Alabama Community College System is honored to take part in the Spring Cleanup every year. It’s our shared responsibility to preserve Alabama’s beauty and keep our communities litter-free. Together, we can inspire future generations to care for our environment.”
How You Can Get Involved
To ensure a successful event, Alabama PALS has distributed nearly 150,000 cleanup bags statewide, along with additional supplies for participating cities, counties, and volunteer groups.
Individuals interested in joining the cleanup can:
- Contact local coordinators to join an existing cleanup group.
- Organize their own cleanup event in their neighborhood or community.
- Encourage friends, family, and organizations to take part in the movement.
