Early SSI Payment to Benefit Millions of Americans Due to Scheduling Quirk

Millions of Americans are set to receive an early Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payment of up to $943 this month, thanks to a scheduling quirk in the Social Security Administration’s 2024/2025 payment schedule.

Typically, SSI payments are issued on the first day of each month. However, because September 1st falls on a Sunday this year, recipients will receive their payments two days earlier, on Friday, August 30th. This adjustment ensures that beneficiaries receive their funds without delay, in line with the Administration’s policy to issue payments on the preceding business day when the first of the month falls on a weekend or holiday.

In 2024, there are three instances where SSI recipients will receive two payments in a single month, with the first occurrence in May. This pattern repeats at the end of August, resulting in no payment being issued on September 1st. The maximum amount for the upcoming SSI payment is $943.

The double-payment scenario will also take place in November due to December 1st landing on a Sunday. The 2025 payment schedule introduces further adjustments, with January, February, and March payments affected by weekends and holidays. For instance, January’s payment will be disbursed on December 31st, and February’s on February 28th, covering March as well. Consequently, no payments will be made in March 2025.
