Woman Scheduled Her Sick Dog For Euthanasia Only To Learn He Was On Adoption List In Another Shelter

Every dog owner is aware of how devastating losing their pet can be.

A dog and its human have an enduring and unique link, and when that bond is severed, the human’s suffering is indescribable.

When a dog mom had to put down her puppy, she experienced this exact sorrow. Later on, though, she discovered it wasn’t actually the case.

Kristie And Beau

Kristie Pereira was eager to become a happy dog owner when she took in Beau, a cute hound-mix puppy, from a Northern Virginia shelter.

She spent every day with her dog, playing with him and taking comfortable naps.

She did see, though, that Beau’s behavior changed after a few months.

After taking Beau to the veterinarian for a checkup, Pereira was told that he might have some neurological problems. In addition to giving him some medication, the veterinarian advised her to take him to the ER if she didn’t see any change.

Regretfully, Pereira took the puppy to an emergency room in Montgomery County, Maryland, after his condition didn’t improve, and they received the same information. In actuality, Beau had serious health issues.

She was informed that there were costly and intrusive testing available. They most likely wouldn’t do anything to help the pup’s condition, though. They therefore suggested that she think about euthanasia.

After some consideration and heartbreak, she made the decision to take Beau to Montgomery County Animal Services and put him down.

Shocking Discovery

Pereira had to bid her child farewell and turn him over to the veterinarian because the animal service’s protocol prohibits owners from being in the room while the treatment is being performed.

Someone who merely wanted to get rid of the dog wouldn’t likely feel nearly as strongly about this as I do, in my opinion. “It wasn’t easy at all,” Pereira told Fox 32.

A document that pet owners must complete while bringing their dog in for euthanasia was obtained by Fox 32, and it contained a box in bold that read, “The owner requests humane euthanasia.”

The paperwork also specifies Montgomery County’s right to treat the puppy and offer it for adoption if they decide the animal is adoptable and treatable.

Beau experienced precisely this!

Following a comprehensive examination, it was concluded that the pup had a liver problem.Consequently, they provided him with medical attention and returned him to his previous refuge in Northern Virginia rather than Pereira.

Pereira was still grieving over the death of her cherished puppy because she was unaware of this. After that, one day she saw a Facebook post about a puppy named Beau offered for adoption!

Pereira was at a loss for what to believe.

To put it mildly, it’s been an emotional rollercoaster. The bewildered owner told the television outlet, “He was like my little baby.”

Montgomery County Animal Services informed Fox 32 that unless the owner phones and immediately apologizes for the choice, they do not get in touch with the pup’s owners if they do not put the animal to death.

However, Pereira stated that based on her memory of the exchange, the animal services advised her to choose the option that most comfortable her, if the veterinarians indicated that a serious health problem existed and that it would be better for her to put him to sleep.

Although the adoption group acknowledged that it deeply understood Pereira’s feelings, it also said that it had a clear policy against returning surrendered puppies to their previous owners, which is precisely what happened in this case.
