A lone cardboard box discarded by the bridge forced a group of recreational cyclists to use the brakes while they were riding their regular route.
A cardboard box left by the side of the road isn’t very unusual, but what caught their attention were the odd sounds emanating from within.
The cyclists got off their bikes and went to look inside the box, unsure of what it might be.
They saw a devastating image as soon as they peered inside. They just couldn’t comprehend how someone could carry out such a cruel deed.
They immediately grabbed their phones and called for assistance without wasting any time.
A Heartbreaking Revelation
Nine viciously abandoned puppies were struggling for their lives inside this cardboard box. With their eyes still closed, six of the puppies were just two weeks old. They were all sobbing from starvation and horribly flea-infested.
It is heartbreaking to even consider these young puppies being left behind, defenseless, and alone in a world they do not yet comprehend.
They were abandoned to suffer while yearning for the warmth and attention they had been denied from an early age. They at least had a chance of surviving because the riders were gracious enough to pause and seek assistance.
The biker who saw the terrible incident contacted the PAWSsion Project’s caretakers.
The rescuers proceeded to retrieve the stranded puppies right away, in agony.
In a society where some people still believe that animals should be thrown out, PAWSsion Project is one of the animal shelters that continues to speak up for unwanted and defenseless animals.
Even though they work with a lot of stray animals, they still find it incomprehensible that someone could be so heartless as to leave young puppies to fend for themselves.
With more than 600 animals spread among their two shelters, PAWSsion Project founder Malou Perez claims that they were already overloaded at the time of the rescue.
They couldn’t refuse these puppies, even though they hardly had space for nine more dogs.
We are simply heartbroken all the time. Perez told The Dodo, “But we also felt grateful that we had the opportunity to save them, especially since they were already within our reach.”
Better Days Are Ahead
They first had to hand remove fleas and ticks from the puppies and place them in quarantine at the rescue.
Since the puppies didn’t have their mother dog, the caregivers also had to bottle feed them every two hours. Although it took a lot of effort, it was well worth it.
The newborn pups began to open their eyes and eat much more two weeks after they were rescued. Additionally, their tick and flea bite wounds were gradually beginning to mend.
According to Perez, it’s always one of the most fulfilling emotions.
As soon as they are mature enough and prepared to move into foster care or a permanent home, the rescue aims to find them all a new home.
They will make every effort to locate them the greatest homes, but they also hope to rehome some of them together. These poor pups deserve it at the very least.
Ultimately, the rescue group wished to remind everyone of the value of adoption and the necessity of spaying and neutering to avoid unwanted litters.
It’s the only path to a better future devoid of helpless little creatures allowed to suffer needlessly in remote locations.
