Adopting a puppy in need of assistance is the best feeling in the world.

It’s so amazing to walk into a shelter, see all those cute faces, and take one home so they may have the greatest life possible with you.

And Haley Houghmaster made the exact decision to do just that.

She fell deeply in love with Salem, a charming Australian Shepherd/border collie mix, after seeing the puppies at her neighborhood shelter in Memphis. She took the dog home after signing all the papers because she was only interested in adopting one puppy.

She was unaware, however, that there was another dog hiding nearby.

The Cutest Surprise

Houghmaster brought Salem to all of the required veterinary appointments, including a spray treatment, after allowing her some time to become used to her new environment.

Following the initial incision and anesthetic, the veterinarians discovered something that really astonished them.Salem had a large fetus.

I discovered after my spay appointment that my new rescue dog is expecting a puppy, she posted on Reddit.

After explaining the circumstances, the veterinarians asked Houghmaster if she would like to have an abortion. She decided to retain it despite the risks to Salem’s health from the treatment and the fact that it was only one puppy.

In an interview, Houghmaster stated, “We are very excited and praying for a healthy puppy and an uneventful delivery.”

Salem gave birth to the prettiest dog ever just a week after learning this wonderful news.

Since then, the proprietors have taken good care of the small family, giving them everything they could possibly need—from a cozy house and delicious food to all the affection they could ever want.
