19-year-old Taunton man ejected, suffering from life-threatening injuries after serious crash

DIGHTON — The Dighton Police and Fire Departments responded to a significant motor vehicle crash on Tremont Street this evening, according to Police Chief George Nichols and Fire Chief Christopher J. Maguy.

A grey Mercedes vehicle was seen speeding along Tremont Street by a Dighton police officer shortly after 6:15 p.m. At the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Tremont Street, the car ran a stop sign.

According to the preliminary investigation, shortly after, the vehicle swerved off the road around 465 Tremont St., collided with a utility post and a tree, and then rolled over, landing upright.

It is thought that the collision caused the 19-year-old Taunton man who was a passenger in the car to be ejected.

The individual was taken to a landing zone by ambulance from the Dighton Fire Department. After that, MedFlight took him to Rhode Island Hospital, where his injuries are thought to be potentially fatal.

The Berkley Fire Department took the driver, a woman from Dighton, to a hospital in Rhode Island.

At the site, the Taunton Fire Department also offered help.

The Massachusetts State Police Detectives Unit assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office and the Dighton Police Accident Reconstruction Team are still investigating the collision.
