Dog Was Almost Euthanized But Then Shelter Staff Learned Something After Checking Her Microchip

Unfortunately, shelters are overcrowded these days, and many dogs must spend their finest days in chilly, dark kennels rather than in a cozy home with a caring family.

Even with the greatest of intentions, staff members at many of those shelters are compelled to place the dogs on death lists because they are overcrowded.

One Pit Bull that was turned in at a shelter in Maryland also ended up there. She was scheduled for euthanasia shortly after arriving there.

But a miracle occurred when amazing information about her was discovered via her microchip.

Shocking, Yet Amazing Realization

The staff at Laila’s Legacy Animal Rescue made the decision to intervene as soon as they learned about a Pit Bull called Ivy.

When this sick puppy first arrived at the Maryland shelter, she was extremely malnourished, had skin problems, and had lesions on her paws and legs.

However, when they learned something incredible about this dog through the microchip, their determination to make her smile grew even stronger.

Ivy appeared to be relatively young, but it came out that she was actually a very ancient dog because her microchip was 19 years old. For them, it was a startling yet incredible insight.

Through their Instagram account, @lailaslegacy_, the rescue group shared a video of Ivy in the arms of a kind person, grinning broadly as though she was aware that her awful fate had passed.

They captioned the video, saying, “We’re so happy we could bust her out today before being euthanized over the holiday weekend.”

Many people’s hearts were warmed by this film, which sparked a wide range of reactions.

19? That’s incredible. She is overjoyed to have a place to call home as she ages. One commenter commented, “It’s unbelievable that she’s only 19!” while another added: What a wonderful love.

“Look at that tail wag and that smile on her face!” exclaimed the third cheerfully.

Happiest Ending

The rescue group said in the same video that Ivy still requires a full-time foster home in order to continue her path to better times.

Soon after, @the_chalk_house_of_mutts stepped in and found a foster home for this elderly dog. There, the foster parents discovered that although she loved tennis, she didn’t get along well with other dogs.

During her time with them, these individuals put in the most effort to address this problem. Ivy was unable to hide her smile after more than a hundred days of being showered with love and care, and her interactions with other canines improved significantly.

After 113 days in a foster home, Ivy finally received the best news possible on October 28: a loving family had fallen in love with her and had chosen to give her a forever home.
