Hundreds of thousands of eggs that were sold at Costcos and were included in a recall that was issued a month ago had a “reasonable” risk that ingestion may cause significant health problems or death owing to being contaminated with salmonella, as stated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the United States of America.
The eggs produced by Handsome Brook Farms and sold at Costco shops in the Southeastern United States were given the highest risk level possible, which is Category 1, by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Friday.
According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the term “category 1” refers to a recall that has been issued because there is “a reasonable probability that the use of or exposure to a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.”
Over ten thousand cartons of eggs sold under the Kirkland Signature brand at Costco were voluntarily recalled last month due to worries that they might be contaminated with salmonella. At the time of the recall, nobody had been affected by the potentially filthy eggs.
Beginning on November 22, 2024, the eggs were made available for purchase at 25 Costco locations across the states of Alabama, North Carolina, Georgia, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
The recall was initiated by Handsome Brook Farms when it was discovered that eggs that were not meant for retail distribution were instead packed and sold in retail packaging.
“Additional supply chain controls and retraining are being put in place to prevent recurrence,” the business stated in its announcement.
The FDA has classified the recall as a significant matter, and FOX Business has attempted to get a comment from Handsome Brook Farms regarding this classification.
The only units that are subject to the recall are those that have the Julian code 327 and a Use By Date of January 5, 2025.
“No other products are impacted by this recall,” the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) stated.
Salmonella is an infection that is transmitted by food and can produce symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, and nausea. It is particularly dangerous for the very young and the elderly, as well as for people who are immunocompromised.
