Having a dog means having a great time. Brinkley is exhibit A, though, because owning a Golden Retriever is a whole other level.

Brinkley had everything a dog could want: a lovely home, lots of pals, and limitless adventures. He was living the good life in Charleston, South Carolina, with his mother, Hannah. But when his family had to relocate, everything changed quickly.

Suddenly, Brinkley was forced to start afresh without his former friends. And that mission was definitely not simple.

Missing His Old Buds

The fantasy of every dog was Brinkley’s life prior to migrating.

As he had wonderful moments with his fellow Golden buddies, he was the happiest boy in the world. They took lengthy walks with their mothers, had playdates, and shared delectable pup cups.

Hannah noted some changes in her dog’s behavior after moving to a new house in South Carolina.

Brinkley was definitely affected by the fact that he was no longer accompanied by his former friends. He started spending his time outside the window, looking around the neighborhood in a nonchalant manner to see if he might make any new acquaintances.

Then it took place!

Brinkley saw another furry face peering at him from the other side of the fence while he was hanging by it in his backyard.

It would be an understatement to say that he is really happy!

Eagerly Counting Down Days

Contacting Cedar, Brinkley’s first neighbor and another Golden Retriever, just took a few minutes. Cedar was just nine weeks old, yet the two clicked immediately!

Brinkley (@youvegotbrinkley) shared this post.

It was obvious that they were both eager to play. He was undoubtedly more energetic when we went outside into the backyard. Hannah told The Dodo, “I always had to drag him back into the house and say not yet.”

But because of their vast age gap, Cedar’s owners wanted to wait two months for Cedar to grow up. Hannah quickly devised a plan to keep Brinkley’s mind busy.

To honor the day that Brinkley could formally play with Cedar, she ordered a calendar just for him. Brinkley suddenly had a brand-new pastime: counting down the days until he and his new friend had their first playdate.

Before breakfast each morning, Brinkley would descend the stairs and cross off a day. He kept himself occupied in the interim by going to the beach, going on long walks with Hannah, and going to a dog park.

Then the day came at last!

Brinkley was ecstatic as the final day on the calendar was crossed off. Hannah couldn’t either! The rest, as they say, is history after they allowed Cedar to enter the backyard!

Together, Brinkley and Cedar genuinely had a great time. Despite the fact that it was their first date, the two clicked like they had known one other for ages.

Our neighbors went berserk as soon as they allowed Cedar to enter the fence. They began pursuing each other right away. Hannah thinks it was well worth the many flipping overs, wrestling matches, and filthy ears and paws.

After the countdown was complete, Brinkley and Cedar entered a new phase that included playdates, sleepovers, and lots of thrilling activities.

Brinkley no longer has to worry about having a companion because he now has a lifelong friend now that the two are finally the same size!
