Massachusetts State Police release details concerning fatal fiery crash on Route 24

Tuesday’s local catastrophic highway collision claimed the life of a driver.

Just before 1:00 p.m., a car hit an empty truck in the breakdown lane of a neighboring construction site on Route 24 south in Berkley (mile marker 13.8), according to Tim McGuirk of Massachusetts State Police Media Relations. The car’s driver passed away from their wounds sustained in the collision.

The scene was attended by troopers from the Bristol County State Police Detective Unit, the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section, the Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section, the Crime Scene Services Section, and the Middleboro Barracks.

During the investigation, MassDOT authorities stopped all travel lanes to ensure the safety of first responders and drivers.

The left lane is currently accessible for traffic around the main crash site.

The State Police are still looking into the situation.
