The story that follows is the tale of Dolly, a rescued dog in dire need of assistance.
The Dog With An Unusual Habit
They recognized her as a kind girl as soon as she entered the shelter.
She was even without a home.
Why, then, wasn’t a puppy like Dolly adopted on that same day?
Day by day, time went by, and Dolly remained.
Although the specific reason is unknown, the kind volunteers at the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter in Buffalo, New York, were certain that Dolly would find a forever home soon.
Immediately after the prospective adopters disregard the black dog syndrome.
The “black dog” syndrome? Do I believe that to be the case?
Regretfully, the answer is yes.
Dark-colored canines at shelters are prone to the “black dog syndrome.”These dogs are typically overlooked because they are viewed as dangerous or because they are not as attractive as some other hues. |1|
Naturally, that couldn’t be further from the reality. That is merely a ridiculous superstition.
Every dog has the same worth. Every dog from a shelter deserves a caring home.
Dolly can count herself fortunate. She got a foster mother, but she didn’t get a family (yet).
And that brings the situation one step closer to its optimum state.
Dolly was a timid child with no self-confidence when Katie first brought her home. Katie was able to quickly establish a connection with Dolly and bring out the best in her. Dolly genuinely developed into a self-assured dog that adores her new life.
It wasn’t just Dolly’s sweetness and fun-loving nature that Katie discovered. Dolly’s foster mother also discovered that she has a peculiar habit: she is adamant on holding hands!
Paws, I mean!
When Katie sought to teach Dolly the command paw, it all started. Dolly kept putting her paw up to get attention because she loved it so much.It was Dolly’s method of obtaining more hugs from Katie.
She would then leap up on the couch or bed and sit next to me if I was seated, and she would immediately reach her paw out for me to grasp, Katie added.She simply cries out for my love and attention. For some reason, she particularly enjoys doing it in the car.
Dolly is there as soon as Katie starts the car, calling shotgun and raising her paw in the air as though she’s requesting emotional support for the journey.
Paw In Hand Makes A Difference
The City of Buffalo Animal Shelter is not the only place in the United States where the black dog syndrome is prevalent.
I think it’s past time to abandon such misconceptions and adopt all dogs, regardless of breed, gender, color, or coat type.
The annual figures on shelters are heartbreaking.New York is in a really excellent position when compared to other states in the United States. As always, there is potential for improvement, but the overall saving rate is 90.6%.
States like Texas and California, meanwhile, continue to have significantly lower saving rates (76.7%).
Dogs like Dolly are rarely given another opportunity. Few pets receive a caring foster mother who would travel out and about to satisfy their requirements and assist in finding them a forever home, like Dolly.
Dolly is a really fortunate woman. She has someone to work hard on her future, bring her gifts, and cuddle with her often.
Above all, she has someone to support her.
Consider how many canines never find a paw-holder!
