A high-speed police chase that began in Wisconsin and ended in a crash in Illinois led to the arrest of four people, including the victim of the crash, according to authorities.
The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office reported that on Monday morning at around 8:45 a.m., a deputy spotted a Chevrolet Cavalier. The vehicle’s owner was known to have no valid driver’s license and was wanted in Lake County, Illinois, on multiple criminal charges.
High-Speed Pursuit Across State Lines
When the deputy attempted to pull the car over on USH-45 at CTH-C, the driver refused to stop and instead sped away southbound at high speed. Given the potential risk to the public, Kenosha County deputies continued the pursuit into Illinois.
Authorities in Lake County, Illinois, later joined the chase to assist in stopping the suspect vehicle.
The pursuit ended in a crash when the suspect’s car collided with another vehicle at the intersection of USH-45 and IL-173, rendering both vehicles inoperable.
Suspects and Arrests
Following the crash, officers arrested several people from the suspect vehicle:
- Mason J. Spencer, 31 – The registered owner of the car. He was arrested due to several active warrants.
- Raymond Underwood, 32 – Identified as the driver, was taken into custody by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. He faces multiple charges, including:
- Felony fleeing
- Four counts of reckless endangerment
Another passenger in the car was initially detained but later released without any charges.
Surprising Twist: Crash Victim Also Arrested
Authorities confirmed that the victim of the crash suffered only minor injuries. However, upon checking their background, police discovered the victim also had outstanding warrants. The individual was arrested and taken to jail.
