A $3.25 million data breach class action settlement may provide compensation to citizens who were informed that the USAA data breach had affected their personal information in May 2021.
A statewide lawsuit alleging that the USAA financial services provider neglected to safeguard personal data during a cyberattack that revealed private client information has been settled.
Since April 7, 2025, was the deadline for submitting claims, citizens should have previously verified their eligibility and submitted their claims if they were eligible to receive their share of the settlement funds.

Around May 6, 2021, a data breach was discovered that allowed unauthorized individuals to access personal data that USAA maintained, giving rise to the class action complaint.
Names, contact information, and possibly more private financial or account information were among the potentially exposed data.
Despite denying any misconduct, USAA, a financial services firm that primarily serves military soldiers, veterans, and their families, consented to the $3.25 million settlement in order to end the lawsuit and prevent more expenses and repercussions.

What is the anticipated amount of the settlement for individuals who have submitted a claim?
The net settlement sum, currently $3.25 million before deductions, will be distributed equally among all class action participants. However, the ultimate payout will be contingent upon:
- The total number of claims filed
- The amount of the settlement price that has been subtracted from legal fees and court-approved administrative costs
- Any further honors for class representatives’ service
