Two new workforce initiatives have been developed by the Department of Economic Opportunity of Los Angeles County in order to assist victims of wildfires with recovery, training, and economic resilience.

To give immediate economic security to workers who have been impacted and dislocated, the Department of Employment and Opportunity (DEO) will invest 32 million dollars in two programmes, according to a statement released by the department.

It was said by the department that the investment will provide individuals with access to jobs, training, and stipends, as well as assist in funding innovative training models with partners from across sectors.

According to a release, the State Employment Development Department will be spending $14.2 million into the Department of Employment and Opportunity (DEO) as well as other local workforce boards for the purpose of the Fire Recovery and Resilience Workforce Programme.

More than one thousand workers who have been displaced or affected by the wildfires will receive assistance from the programme as a result of the investment.

Through the programme, individuals will have the opportunity to gain access to temporary subsidised work opportunities, as well as services related to hiring and training.

According to the website for the programme, participants who meet the requirements can begin the process of developing an individual employment plan by enrolling with an America’s Job Centre in Northern California.

Also, they have access to a number of other services that are provided by the programme.

In order to be eligible, workers must be at least 18 years old, residents of Los Angeles County, and possess work authorisation in the United States.

The Department of Education’s High Road Training Partnership Fund is a grant programme that has a total of $17.8 million available to assist in the development or expansion of training programmes that are worker-informed and driven by the industry.

The purpose of the fund is to facilitate connections between those who are looking for work and chances for training and professional advancement.

Additionally, the fund has agreements with job centres, businesses, and other organisations in order to supply them with workforce resources along with other organisations.

The Human Resources Training Programme (HRTP) website states that as of this moment, the fund has collaborated with 72 partners, 475 trainees who have enrolled, and 351 placements in total.

The fund provides assistance to people who have been affected by COVID-19 in addition to those who have been affected by wildfires. The submission of grant applications will begin on Monday.
