Ohio Family’s Nightmare: Mom Accuses Police of Harming Infant in Raid Mix-Up
A distressed Ohio mother is demanding a thorough investigation after a mistaken police raid, caught on a doorbell camera, resulted in injuries to her 17-month-old son.
The incident unfolded in a Cleveland suburb last Wednesday when dozens of police officers targeted the home of the woman’s aunt.
Courtney Price recounts the traumatic event, stating that a flash-bang explosion shattered a window next to her son, Waylon, who was already on a ventilator at the time. The Elyria Police Special Response Team asserts that the raid was appropriate, executing a search warrant for a minor connected to a burglary.
However, Price challenges the police narrative, asserting that officers forcefully entered the residence by breaking down the front door in a dramatic raid, a moment captured on a Ring camera in Ohio.
Price describes the frantic scenario, which included the home filled with smoke and lights flashing. Police brandished their rifles at her, and she felt immobilized with panic, unable to approach her son. Shortly after, she was led outside and handcuffed while continuously expressing worry for her ventilator-dependent infant.
Ohio Family Claims Chemical Exposure
Waylon was subsequently hospitalized with burns, glass shards, and smoke exposure, diagnosed with chemical pneumonitis from the flash-bang chemicals, according to Price.
However, Elyria Police maintain that neither Price nor medical professionals found any visible injuries on the child at the scene. They categorically deny allegations of the child being exposed to chemical agents during the operation.
Redia Jennings, Price’s aunt, expressed alarm about the frequent police visits to the property in pursuit of a suspect who does not live there, indicating that the Ohio incident has left the family frightened. The family intends to file a lawsuit against the department because the home has been damaged.
In response to the department’s actions, the mayor of the city expressed grave concerns and launched an Ohio investigation. While the investigation continues, bodycam video is being examined and will be made available to the public.
The fallout from this mistaken raid raises questions about the appropriate use of force and the potential consequences of flawed police operations on innocent civilians.
