Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has extended an invitation to former President Donald Trump, urging him to visit Ukraine and attempt to stop the war in 24 hours.

The invitation comes in response to Trump’s repeated claims that, if he were still in office, he could swiftly resolve the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Trump, currently the leading candidate for the 2024 Republican nomination, reiterated this stance after winning the Iowa primary, pledging to end the conflict very quickly if elected.

During a recent interview on British Channel 4 News, Zelensky addressed Trump directly, stating, “Donald Trump, I invite you to Ukraine, to Kyiv. So if you can stop the war within 24 hours, I think it will be enough to come.”

Zelensky had previously challenged Trump’s assertions in July, emphasizing that ending the war should not come at the expense of Ukrainian territories.

Zelensky acknowledged that Trump’s comments were typical election rhetoric but expressed concern about the potential consequences. He highlighted the danger of Trump making decisions unilaterally, without considering both sides, which could have significant implications for Ukraine.

This apprehension arises from the possibility that Trump could disregard the well-being of the country while pursuing his proposed strategy.

In the interview, Zelensky expressed gratitude for the aid provided by Western allies, particularly the United States. However, he suggested that more assistance could be beneficial in their efforts to secure victory.

Zelensky’s invitation to Trump reflects the ongoing tension surrounding the geopolitical situation in Eastern Europe and the potential impact of Trump’s policies on the region. Newsweek reached out to a representative for Trump for comment on Zelensky’s invitation.
