The 37-year-old Heiton Camacho Bonilla of Amsterdam Avenue was taken into custody, according to the NYPD. The charges against him included attempted murder, robbery, assault, unlawful use of a firearm, unlawful possession of a weapon, menacing, and reckless endangerment.
The reason why the gunman shot the victim after he gave over his money and cell phone as directed is still a mystery to investigators. Dramatic footage of the robber aiming a blue handgun at the diner’s back when they were seated at the Seafood King Fish Market counter at Broadway and West 163rd Street was made public by the NYPD.
Authorities reported that while the suspect was robbing the restaurant, the shooter fired into the back of his skull. The gunman was inside the restaurant before the robbery, according to investigators. Metropolitan Hospital provided treatment for the victim.
On December 6, the fatal events started at about 1:45 a.m. A man in black clothing and with a face mask entered the Seafood King Fish Market and placed an order. And with that, he was gone. Ten minutes later, according to the police, the same man came back and used the restaurant’s restroom. The victim was seated at the counter to dine at this point.
A short while later, the man in black demanded money from the register as he emerged from the restroom brandishing a blue pistol. In addition, he insisted on receiving the victim’s and the employee’s cell phones. The gunman put the items in the register in a bag when the employee gave them to him. Both the customer and the cashier turned in their cell phones.
Per investigators, the gunman gave the worker instructions to get down. The diner’s head was then shot in the back point blank by him. The gunman left the eatery quickly and took off running in an unidentified route.
