New video shows a 10-year-old Maryland boy attacked by a shark during a Walking with the Sharks excursion at the Atlantis Paradise Island resort in the Bahamas on January 15.

In the distressing video obtained by TMZ, the boy’s mother’s panicked voice can be heard as she witnesses the horrifying event unfold. “Did that just bite him?” she asks before realizing it’s her son and urgently calling for medical assistance.

Initially envisioned as an exhilarating escapade priced at $110, the experience swiftly morphed into a nightmarish scenario when the young boy found himself unexpectedly dragged into the water by a shark.

Witnesses recounted how he lost his footing and straddled a reef shark, which then bit into his right leg, causing profuse bleeding in the tank. Thankfully, the parents swiftly rescued him and rushed him to a nearby hospital where he is reported to be in stable condition, as confirmed by the Royal Bahamas Police Force.

The incident has prompted an internal investigation by Blue Adventures, the organizers of the event, who stated, “Incidents like this involving interactions with marine life, even with the species of sharks included in this experience, are rare and never acceptable.”

This shocking event adds to the recent concerns about safety in the Bahamas. With a spate of murders and shark attacks, including the tragic death of a tourist in December, the US embassy has issued warnings against travel to the island nation.

While shark attacks are rare, they underscore the importance of caution when interacting with marine life. The Bahamas has a history of such incidents, with at least 33 confirmed unprovoked shark attacks since 1580, according to the International Shark Attack File.

As authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding this latest attack, it serves as a reminder of the unpredictability of nature and the need for vigilance, even in seemingly controlled environments.
