February Snap Benefits in Texas: Eligibility and Payment Distribution

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), also known as food stamps, offers crucial nutrition assistance to individuals and families with low incomes throughout the United States, including Texas.

The Lone Star Card is used by Texas’ Health and Health Services Commission (HHSC) to provide SNAP food benefits and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) cash help payments.
It functions like a debit card and is used to purchase necessary items.

TANF benefits are distributed on a monthly basis, with the specific distribution dates determined by the last digit of the EDG number.

In a similar fashion, SNAP benefits are distributed throughout the month, depending on the last two digits of the EDG number.

When the household’s benefits are prorated at application, they will receive the prorated benefit amount and the subsequent monthly allotment as a single deposit into their EBT account.

It is worth mentioning that SNAP benefits cannot be issued beyond 40 days after the previous issuance.
Households whose applications were certified over 40 days prior to their scheduled monthly benefit issuance date will experience an adjustment period for their initial issuance until their benefits are synchronized with their scheduled date.

Maintaining or Adjusting Based on Certification Dates

Households enrolled in SNAP prior to May 1, 2023, will maintain their current benefit issuance schedule, which is determined by the date of their initial certification.

However, if there is a gap in benefits lasting at least six months and the household reapplies after the specified date, the issuance schedule may change.

The Texas Health and Human Services department determines the monthly SNAP benefits by considering the size of the household.

The benefit amounts vary, starting from $281 for a single-person household and going up to $1,691 for a household with eight people.
