This expanded recall encompasses various popular deli meat products, including chorizo, smoked pork ribs, cooked ham, mortadella, and smoked pork loin, all bearing the establishment number “EST. 34257” inside the USDA mark of inspection. Distributed to retail locations primarily in Florida, these products pose a potential health risk to consumers.
Listeria monocytogenes contamination can result in listeriosis, a serious infection with symptoms ranging from fever and muscle aches to more severe complications such as meningitis and septicemia. Vulnerable populations, including older adults, individuals with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women, are at heightened risk of adverse outcomes from listeriosis.
With the expiration dates of the affected products extending until the end of March, there is a concern that some items may still be present in consumers’ refrigerators or freezers, necessitating immediate action. Consumers are strongly advised not to consume these products and are urged to either discard them or return them to the place of purchase for a refund.
The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) underscores the importance of vigilance in food safety practices and encourages consumers to seek medical attention if they suspect they have consumed contaminated products and are experiencing symptoms consistent with listeriosis.
