A 16-year-old girl named Lizbeth Medina was discovered dead in her apartment on December 5; Texas police have now arrested a suspect in her murder.
On Sunday, the Edna Police Department declared the arrest of Rafael Govea Romero, an “undocumented male,” in Schulenburg. According to the department, Romero is “the person responsible for the death of Lizbeth Medina.”
Romero was arrested for capital murder and taken to Jackson County Jail by the Edna Police Department and Texas Rangers, according to a press release issued by the department on Sunday morning. “We acknowledge that even though Romero has been captured, Lizbeth’s friends and family are still in need of community support as they grieve. Now Edna’s residents can slumber in peace.”
Lizbeth’s mother, Jacqueline Medina, stated to Fox News Digital, “Not at all,” in response to a question about whether or not she knows the suspect. She’s waiting on additional police information.
As officials searched for Lizbeth’s probable killer last week, the Edna community was shocked by her murder. Texan suspect in custody following a spree shooting that resulted in six fatalities, three injuries, an arrest, and murder charges.
Last week, Jacqueline Medina told Fox News Digital that after not seeing or hearing from Lizbeth, 16, that afternoon, she returned home on Tuesday evening to discover the 16-year-old dead in the bathtub of their Cottonwood Apartments.
“I made up my mind to go find her. And whenever I would call her phone, it would always go straight to voicemail. I asked around, but nobody had any information. I didn’t realize her foot was in the bathtub until I entered the bathroom while I was phoning my friend to urge him to come assist me in hunting for her. I proceeded to open the drapes. Medina responded, “There she was.”
Around six a.m. on Tuesday, Medina left for work. Because she needed to get ready for cheer practice, she claimed to have woken her daughter up before leaving. According to Medina, Lizbeth’s last known whereabouts were at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Friends and relatives thought her phone must have died after that.
Friends did not find it strange when Lizbeth did not show up to school on Tuesday as she had been sick from school the Monday before.
Tuesday afternoon, Medina wrapped up her work early itogo to Lizbeth’s scheduled Christmas parade. However, she did not recognize her daughter at the parade, so she started enlisting the aid of friends and family to find her. When she got back to her flat, Lizbeth was dead in their bathtub.
“The reason is beyond me. Why would they harm her in this way, my god?” stated Medina. She is such a lovely, astute, and remarkable young woman. Sometimes I simply can’t handle it. There are also times when I feel like I have to stand up for her.”
After relocating from Nebraska to Texas for her work in renewable energy, she and her daughter were renting an apartment in the complex. She mentioned that she and Lizbeth were the only ones with keys to the flat.
Romero was taken into custody one day after the Edna police released security camera footage of a suspect. “I just want everybody to know that that was an amazing child,” said Medina. She wasn’t your typical teenage girl getting into problems for oddball behavior. In comparison to her age, she exhibited great maturity. According to the notes I received and what I understand about her, she was a kind and kind person who touched many lives. I only hope that’s how everyone remembers her, not how she was taken from me.”
As part of their search for Liz’s alleged killer, the Medina family has set up a GoFundMe called “Justice for Lizbeth Medina.”
