From northern Virginia to northern Delaware, southeast Pennsylvania, and southern New Jersey, there are winter weather advisories for snow and freezing rain.
There is a chance of a little snow tonight and Tuesday morning. This is because of a cold front that will move east into the cold air that is still here. It was very cold this morning, with lows in the teens and single digits. Things will get a little better today, though, with sunshine for most of the day. In places north and west of the coast, high temperatures will reach the mid-20s. As you head south toward Southern New Jersey, temperatures will rise to the upper 20s and lower 30s.
Today, the skies are mostly clear along the East Coast. However, we can see the next weather system coming through the Great Lakes. This weather front doesn’t bring much moisture with it, so we’re not worried about any good shocks. Tonight there will be more clouds, and a frontal line of snow showers will be coming up. They will reach the coast Tuesday morning around or just after dawn. Even though it might be clear for a while tonight, the temperature will drop to the upper teens to mid-20s. It will stop dropping once clouds come in.
Some light snow will fall in the morning, from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m., so this won’t last for very long. Winter Weather Advisories have been put up in parts of southwest New Jersey and southeast Pennsylvania where snow may mix with or turn into freezing rain. Things will get better in the afternoon after the front moves out to sea. Weather-wise, highs could reach the mid to upper 30s by late afternoon.
The air behind the front isn’t nearly as cold as the air in front of it, so it will clear out Tuesday night and there won’t be any rain to worry about. The lows will be in the upper teens to mid-20s when you wake up on Christmas morning. The weather on Christmas Day should be nice and sunny, and the highs will be in the 30s, which is about right for this time of year.
It will stay dry and cold for the rest of the week because high pressure is building across Upstate NY and New England. This will keep temperatures from rising too much. The highs on Thursday and Friday will be in the 30s, and there will be some sunshine. Things look like they will be dry on Saturday of next week, but it will rain on Sunday as low pressure moves from the Lower Mississippi Valley to the Great Lakes.
