A high-speed chase that stretched across five counties in Alabama ended with the arrest of a teenage driver early Saturday morning. The pursuit, which began near Gadsden, has garnered significant attention due to its dramatic nature and the young age of the driver involved.
The chase began around 7:30 a.m. when Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) troopers attempted to stop a 2023 Nissan Armada in Centre, located in Cherokee County. The vehicle, driven by a 15-year-old from New Market, Tennessee, did not pull over, leading to a high-speed pursuit.
The teenager fled south on U.S. 411 and then turned onto Interstate 59. During the chase, the driver struck two civilian vehicles in Jefferson County. Despite the dangerous nature of the pursuit, authorities reported no injuries related to the incident.
The chase reached its climax at the 77-mile marker in Tuscaloosa County when the Nissan Armada veered off the road. The vehicle collided with a fence and a building as the teenager attempted to exit the highway. Following the crash, the driver tried to escape on foot but was quickly apprehended by troopers.
The teen was transported to the Tuscaloosa County Juvenile Detention Center and charged with felony eluding. Fortunately, ALEA confirmed that no force was used during the arrest, and no one was injured due to the pursuit.
