Fall River Police Department, Cops For Kids With Cancer, help family dealing with pediatric cancer; here is their story and how you can help.
To support a sick Fall River girl, the community is banding together.
The Fall River Police Department supported Jadalynn and her family on Wednesday by forming a proud partnership with Cops For Kids With Cancer.
The organization’s representative, retired officer Thomas Reed, came to the station to give Jadalynn and her family—Jescely, Francis, Joel, Jescely, and Jazzlyn—a donation to aid with the various difficulties they have when dealing with pediatric cancer.
Joining the presentation and spending time with this amazing family was an honor for Chief Kelly A. Furtado, Deputy Chief Barden H. Castro, Sergeant Peter DaLuz, and Patrol Officer President Jon Ferreira.
Days after Jada Lynn’s third birthday, she started dealing with something that no child should ever have to go through, according to mother Jessica Smith, who shared this information through a GoFundMe campaign. Jada is a charming young child who enjoys learning, smiling, and spending time with her loved ones. Jada’s leukemia diagnosis in September completely upended her and her family’s lives in a matter of 12 days.
Jada’s parents visited the emergency department after noticing mysterious bruises around two weeks before her diagnosis. The family’s journey from triage to the intensive care unit seemed to happen in an instant.
According to Jessica, Jada has B-cell (ALL), a blood malignancy that needs to be treated aggressively and very away. Jada is currently receiving intense chemotherapy, and the coming months will be challenging.
According to Smith, despite all of the testing and pain, Jada has been a strong, brave, warrior who manages to smile, laugh and still be her sassy little self even on the toughest of days.
Chemotherapy, medicine, and possible consequences are all part of the lengthy treatment regimen, which could last up to two years or longer.
Smith says she has put her job on hold to provide her daughter with the care she needs, and the nearly $9,000 the community received through the GoFundMe will help with medical costs, prescription drugs, and transportation to and from the Boston hospital.
Smith acknowledges that not everyone is able to donate, but she hopes that people would share her daughter’s story and offer prayers for Jada Lynn to fully recover and grow up to be the strong, healthy child that all children deserve.
We hope that sharing Jada s story will help other parents not to underestimate similar symptoms, so that these illnesses can be diagnosed in time and treated fully.
