MA’S FREETOWN Following a police pursuit, a Massachusetts man was taken into custody by a number of organizations.

At before 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Patrolman Kobey Imbert of the Freetown Police Department stopped a car on Chace Road close to Route 140, according to Lieutenant Benjamin Levesque. The driver of the 2019 Toyota Highlander gave Patrolman Imbert a bogus identity associated with a person whose driver’s license was suspended. The operator ran south on Route 140 into the City of New Bedford when more officers arrived to help.

Up to 120 mph was reached throughout the roughly 23-mile pursuit, which went through New Bedford and back onto Route 140 northbound. The car’s tires successfully lost air when the Lakeville Police Department used a tire deflation equipment. Even when the tires collapsed, the operator kept running north. Two cruisers from the Massachusetts State Police who had joined the pursuit were hit by the car. After losing control and veering off the road, the operator was apprehended without any additional incidents.

Possession of Class B Substance (Crack Cocaine), Motor Vehicle Operator Refused to Identify Self, Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Failure to Stop for Police, Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License, Subsequent Offense, and Speeding at a Rate Greater than the Posted Speed Limit are among the charges against the operator, identified as James Brownell, 45, of Millbury, Massachusetts, who was arraigned earlier today in Fall River District Court.

Additionally, Brownell had outstanding warrants from the Worcester and Leominster District Courts for prior drug, theft, and motor vehicle violations at the time of his arrest.
