According to Attorney General Merrick Garland, the special counsel’s investigation into President Biden’s handling and storage of classified documents during his time as a US senator has concluded after almost 13 months.

In his letter to the leaders of the House and Senate Judiciary committees, Garland mentioned that Robert Hur, a former Maryland US attorney, submitted his report on Monday. He stated that the document will be released after undergoing a “privilege review” by the White House counsel’s office.

The report by Hur is not anticipated to suggest any charges against Biden, 81, or individuals associated with him.

However, there are concerns among members of the president’s re-election campaign that the special counsel’s findings could potentially expose embarrassing information and photographs related to the handling of sensitive national security matters.

An investigation was launched by Garland on Jan. 12, 2023, following the White House’s acknowledgment of a number of classified documents found at both Biden’s Wilmington, Del. residence and his post-vice presidency office in DC, which were provided by the University of Pennsylvania.

According to Biden’s lawyers, classified documents were discovered on November 2, 2022, during the process of clearing out his former office at the Penn Biden Center near Capitol Hill.

On December 20, 2022, more documents were discovered in the garage of Biden’s Wilmington home. Searchers, including FBI investigators, continued to make additional findings. They also conducted a search at Biden’s vacation home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, and took written notes with them.

Biden was interviewed by investigators from Hur’s team in October, about a year after he criticized Trump for keeping national security documents at Mar-a-Lago. This has become the basis of an ongoing federal case against the former president.
