September is Hunger Action Month, and with food insecurity on the rise, the need for healthy and accessible food is more urgent than ever.
Feeding America reports that 44 million Americans, including 13 million children, are now food insecure. In New York State, one in seven people face food insecurity.
The Food Bank of the Southern Tier is actively raising awareness and funds this month to combat the issue. According to Mark Bordeau, the organization’s President and CEO, new data shows that one in five children in Binghamton don’t have enough food.
He emphasized the critical importance of nutrition, stating, “Without healthy food, it can impact your health, education, and really every aspect of your life.”
Hunger Action Month encourages people to get involved through volunteering, donating, and using social media to spread awareness.
