King Charles III Confronts Cancer Diagnosis, Buckingham Palace Provides Details
Buckingham Palace announced on Monday that King Charles III, aged 75, has been diagnosed with cancer following a recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement.
In a statement, the palace revealed, “During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer.”
Treatment and Duty Amid Cancer Diagnosis
As part of his treatment plan, Charles has commenced a schedule of regular treatments and has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties. However, he will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual.
The palace did not disclose details regarding the type of cancer, its stage, or the specific treatment regimen.
Expressing gratitude for his medical team’s swift intervention, the statement emphasized Charles’s positive outlook towards his treatment and his eagerness to resume full public duty soon.
Prince Harry to Visit King Charles III Following Cancer Diagnosis
King Charles III personally informed his children and siblings of his diagnosis. Prince Harry is planning to visit him in the United Kingdom in the coming days, according to confirmed reports from ABC News.
Queen Camilla will carry on with her public duties during this period, as stated by a palace spokesperson.
Last week, on January 29, Charles was discharged from The London Clinic after undergoing a procedure for an enlarged prostate. Initially announced as a “corrective procedure” on January 17, the subsequent diagnosis of cancer marks a significant development in the king’s health.
The news prompted an outpouring of support from world leaders and dignitaries. UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak extended his well wishes for Charles’s recovery, while President Joe Biden expressed concern and pledged to reach out to him.
President Biden later shared a message on social media, offering thoughts and prayers for Charles’s swift recovery. Similar sentiments were echoed by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and French President Emmanuel Macron.
Meanwhile, in another development within the royal family, Kate, the Princess of Wales, underwent planned abdominal surgery on January 16. The surgery was successful, and Kate has since been discharged from the hospital and is recuperating at home with her family.
Charles ascended to the throne in September 2022, following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who held the title of the longest-reigning monarch in British history.
