Buckingham Palace announced on Wednesday that King Charles III of Britain will undergo a corrective procedure for an enlarged prostate next week.

The palace emphasized that the 75-year-old monarch’s condition is benign, and the procedure aims at addressing the issue. As a result, King Charles’ public engagements are set to be postponed briefly to allow for a period of recuperation.

In a statement, Buckingham Palace shared that the king, in line with thousands of men each year, sought treatment for an enlarged prostate.

According to the palace source, King Charles was keen to disclose the specifics of his diagnosis in order to promote medical examinations for other men who may be exhibiting similar symptoms, in line with recommended public health measures.

The announcement coincided with the news of Kate, the Princess of Wales, undergoing planned abdominal surgery. The 42-year-old wife of Prince William, Charles’ eldest son and heir to the throne, is expected to be hospitalized for up to two weeks.

Buckingham Palace announced on Wednesday that King Charles III of Britain will undergo a corrective procedure for an enlarged prostate next week.

As a result, Princess Kate will be extending her hiatus from her regular routine of participating in public events and fulfilling private commitments for an extended period.

Charles ascended to the throne following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, in September 2022, at the age of 96. Queen Elizabeth’s reign spanned a record 70 years, marking an era-defining moment when she was crowned in 1953, televised for the first time.

Charles, a veteran royal, faced various challenges during his reign, including the ongoing controversy surrounding his brother Prince Andrew’s association with disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.

The release of Spare, written by Prince Harry, last year also uninvitedly increased public awareness of the royal family. King Charles III has managed his obligations and duties as the current monarch despite these difficulties.

The forthcoming medical procedure is expected to be a temporary disruption to his engagements, as the palace assures the public of the benign nature of his condition.
