The identify of a guy killed in a traffic accident in Massachusetts has been made public by authorities.

Troopers assigned to the Charlton Barracks responded to several reports of a person struck on Interstate 90 east near Grafton (mile marker 98) just after 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, according to Tim McGuirk of Massachusetts State Police Media Relations.

Troopers found the victim dead when they arrived on the scene and called the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the Detective Unit assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office, the State Police Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Section, and the Crime Scene Services Section for assistance.

Officials opened one lane between mile markers 96 and 98 for traffic in order to protect drivers and investigators, but all other lanes will be closed until around 11:00 p.m.

Troopers found tracks going to the highway and a bicycle on a nearby side street, but it was not immediately obvious why the victim had entered the road.

The victim is Grafton resident Jayson Bastarache, 36. We send our sympathies to his loved ones and family.

The Worcester County District Attorney’s Office and State Police are looking into the matter.
