Massachusetts State Police respond to fatal late night wrong-way highway crash in Plymouth

Overnight, a highway crash results in a fatality.

State Police were notified of a driver traveling the wrong way on Plymouth’s Route 3 south just before midnight on Friday. His command was notified by a patrolling trooper of a single-car collision at mile marker 9.2 that seemed to be connected. Following the collision, all southbound lanes were closed.

Responding to the incident were State Police officers assigned to the Crime incident Services Section and MassDOT officials assigned to the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section. In order to close Route 3 and redirect traffic until it reopened at around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, Plymouth Police were of great assistance.

Serious injuries were suffered by the driver and only occupant of the vehicle that was traveling in the incorrect direction. They were taken by officials to a hospital in Boston, where they were declared deceased. Until the proper notifications can be made, their identity is being kept secret at this time. We send our sympathies to their loved ones and family.

The State Police are still looking into the situation.
