Massachusetts woman killed in pedestrian crash remembered for dedication to family, work as nurse, volunteering
We are remembering a pedestrian who was killed last Wednesday afternoon in the vicinity of 314 Washington St. in Weymouth after being hit by an SUV.
The deceased, Harjit Thakral, 78, of Weymouth, was transported by ambulance to South Shore Hospital, where she was declared dead shortly before 1:45 p.m., approximately 30 minutes after the accident, according to Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey.
The SUV’s driver stayed on the scene.
No charges were brought right away.
Thakral was devoted to her spouse, kids, and dogs, according to her obituary. After seventeen years as a nurse at Boston’s Spaulding Rehabilitation Center, she worked in a number of nursing homes in the Braintree and Weymouth area. She also worked as a babysitter and enjoyed helping at Sacred Heart School, where she assisted in the cafeteria and served as the school nurse, as well as at Tufts Library.
The Norfolk District Attorney’s Office and Weymouth Police are investigating the collision.
Troops from the Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services Section and Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section responded to the scene and are helping them.
