Missing and possibly endangered Massachusetts woman found deceased, suspected cause of death released
December 25, 2024, Beverly, Mass. This evening, Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker and Beverly Police Chief John G. LeLacheur revealed that Owen Kasozi, 30, of Danvers, had been discovered dead in Wenham Lake in Beverly. The Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (NEMLEC), the Beverly Police Department, the Beverly Fire Department, the Massachusetts State Police (MSP) Detective Unit assigned to Tucker’s office, the MSP Airwing unit, and the Beverly Police Department conducted a search after Kasozi was last seen leaving the J.C. Phillips Nature Preserve in Beverly near Wenham Lake at around 3:00 p.m. yesterday and failed to return.
According to authorities, before going missing, Kasozi is said to have been taking her dog for a walk in the nature preserve at 801 Cabot Street on Route 97 in Beverly, a well-liked spot for dog walks. Last night, the dog was found in Topsfield without its owner.
Authorities believe that Kasozi was unable to escape after falling into the icy lake yesterday. Although there is currently no suspicion of foul play, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an inquiry to determine the official cause of death.
“I want to express our deepest sympathies to the family of Owen Kasozi on behalf of the Beverly Police Department,” LeLacheur stated. In addition, I want to express my gratitude to all of the first responders for providing the family with some measure of closure during this challenging search.
Tucker stated that no one had anticipated this search result. We are grateful to all of our law enforcement partners for their hard work in finding Owen Kasozi on Christmas Eve and Day. As her family starts to deal with this terrible loss, our thoughts are with them.
