The New York State Fair was abruptly closed early on Sunday evening due to safety concerns following false reports of gunfire. The decision to shut down, which was made at approximately 9:40 p.m., was described as a precautionary measure by fair spokesperson Sean Farnsworth.

The situation unfolded after two separate calls were made to State Police reporting possible gunshots at different locations within the fairgrounds. The first report came at 8:38 p.m., indicating shots fired between the Midway and the Suburban Park stage. A second call was received three minutes later, reporting gunfire near the Eatery building. State Troopers responded swiftly to both reports but found no evidence of any shooting or injuries.

The fair was bustling with activity, including a performance by Grammy-nominated rapper Rick Ross at Suburban Park. His concert, which began at 8 p.m., continued as planned and concluded around 9:20 p.m., unaffected by the incidents. However, the early closure led to confusion and fear among attendees, with many scrambling to leave the fairgrounds or retrieve family members.
