Residents of Phoenix were recently rocked to their core by Dorothea’s story.
This 10-year-old Chi mix was weary and barely surviving after getting stuck on a shopping cart in a hazardous canal.
The dog clung to the cart, terrified and unable to escape, and hoped for the best.
Thankfully, the call was answered right away by the Phoenix Fire Department and the Arizona Humane Society Field Team!
How Did She Get There
When a random bystander noticed an enigmatic object floating in the center of the canal, they became alarmed. When they looked closely, they saw that it wasn’t an object at all but was breathing.
There was no one around to assist the dog, who was inexplicably stuck on a shopping cart.
The onlookers were immediately drawn to Dorothea, a senior Chi mix, and they called for assistance, leaving the task to the professionals. Teams from the Phoenix Fire Department and the Arizona Humane Society quickly responded on the site.
Hunter Stribling, the shelter’s medical technician, collaborated closely with another team to expedite Dorothea’s departure. Both parties were aware that time was of the essence because of her uncertain situation.
To get to the dog, who seemed paralyzed with terror, they had to use a ladder.
When Dorothy’s paws eventually hit the earth, the rescue effort was thankfully successful. Stribling is quite happy, as are his teammates!
Soon after, Dorothea’s rescue tale garnered national attention, highlighting the incredible job that AHS performs to assist stray dogs in need. Fortunately, Dorothea was one of them!
Adorable Twist
This elderly dog was taken right away to the hospital for a comprehensive examination.
Dorothea ended up with a few broken teeth but was otherwise healthy, save for thirst, ticks, and the stench of canal water.
She quickly adapted to a new existence in a secure setting by joining her friends in the AHS facility. Even though she was becoming old, this adorable dog just took a few days to show everyone how adorable and energetic she was!
Dorothea showed affection as soon as she was treated, which warmed the hearts of the whole rescue crew.
Throughout her month of treatment at the shelter (including a spa day with AHS groomer) Dorothea was found to be a sweet, loving girl who enjoyed cuddles and attention from humans,AHS wrote in theirwebsite post.
Days later, Dorothea’s rescuers were ecstatic to hear another thrilling piece of news.
As it happened, adopters wanted to provide Dorothea with a loving home, so they reached out to the shelter! The AHS team is quite happy to see her paired with a suitable family because of her charming personality and the fact that she makes a great companion.
Dorothea will now love playing in the grass, taking plenty of walks, and going on countless adventures with her new family.
She finally gets to spend her golden years being cared for, far from the dangers of a mishap like the one in her recent past.
Goodbye, Dorothea! Having AHS on your side is a blessing!
