While on routine patrol in southern Dallas, Texas, earlier this year, Dallas Police Department officers discovered a very young kitten cowering next to a dumpster.
The officers weren’t precisely sure what the animal was, but it was definitely adorable and had a caramel color.
Despite the fact that this infant resembled a tiny fox or maybe a coyote, the authorities were unable to determine its true nature.
The police officers kept the infant warm and safe until Dallas Animal Services arrived to pick it up because they knew it was in dire need of rescue.
Puppy Or Coyote?
There was a lot of media coverage nationwide following the finding of this enigmatic critter. Was that a coyote or a puppy mutt? What would become of it?
Dallas Animal Services authorities couldn’t determine for sure, but they didn’t believe the animal was a coyote.
After all, the creature did resemble a coyote pup.
Its temporary foster parent, Dallas Animal Services officer Jacqui Sutherland, had her own suspicions. “My money is on domestic,” she told WFAA. It would be on domestic if I had money.
However, given its large ears and thick coat, it seemed highly likely to be any of the two species.
In order to finally discover the truth, they concluded that a DNA test was the only sensible course of action.
They made the decision to name this intriguing animal that garnered a lot of interest while they awaited the test results.
Introducing Toast, Texas’s most adorable mystery.
Drum Roll, Please
After nearly two weeks of anticipation, the big presentation was finally made by Embark Vet.
Toast is a dog! Dallas Animal Services said in a Facebook post that she was a gorgeous little mongrel, just as we had anticipated.
After weeks of speculation about whether Toast was a puppy or a coyote, the truth has finally come to light.
She is a gorgeous puppy that was rescued from a life that involved eating out of a dumpster.
Finding Toast a forever home was the only task left to accomplish after her breed reveal was complete. She was swiftly accepted because it just took five minutes for her to obtain the maximum number of applications.
Toast has found a home, but according to Embark Vet’s Facebook post, “the Dallas area is overloaded with dogs, and many large-breed dogs and moms with pups are looking for fosters and forever homes.”
Although we are overjoyed that Toast’s journey ended successfully, we still hope that other strays and abandoned dogs will also find their happily ever after.
