The owner of the pit bull that murdered a tiny poodle dog in Santa Monica on Friday night is being sought by police.

Dublin, the 11-year-old toy poodle who was slain, was owned by Christopher Dietrick and Alyssa Kluge. In the hopes that someone may be able to guide them, they have posted signs throughout the city.

The Santa Monica Police Department said that the attack occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. near the ocean, at the intersection of Main Street and Strand Street.

The confrontation, which lasted for about a minute and during which Dietrick claimed he was struggling to preserve their cherished puppy, is partially captured on surveillance footage from the scene.

“As we were walking with our toy poodle, that pit bull lunged and got a hold of our baby. There was a big struggle, it was pretty gruesome,” he stated. “I just kept punching and punching and punching.”

They claim that as they passed a man walking with a pit bull on a leash, he conversed with another man inside a parked automobile.

The other owner ran north on Main Street with his dog in tow after they eventually removed the pit bull from Dublin.

Simultaneously, the driver of the white sedan speaking to the unidentified dog owner leaped from the vehicle and started to retrieve what Dietrick and Kluge claimed was a quantity of cash that had been spread during the dog incident.

“It happened so fast and it was so loud and then all of a sudden, everyone started screaming that he was taking off and he started running,” Dietrick stated.

The pair was taken to the emergency room of a neighboring veterinarian by a Good Samaritan who was parked nearby.

“We came closer and we saw this guy sitting on the ground, his arms around a dog and the woman next to him screaming,” the woman stated. “My girlfriend said, ‘There’s no way he could be alive.’ And we said, ‘Maybe, maybe, maybe.'”

In the end, Dublin passed away from his terrible wounds.

“He died in my arms … I’ve had him since he was nine weeks old, named him Dublin cause I got him on St. Patrick’s Day,” Kluge stated. “He is our son and losing a pet is horrific, obviously, but in the violent way that we experienced it if feels like it’s going in the back of my eyelids, that’s all I can see.”

During the confusion, Dietrick also got bitten.

The pit bull, officially known as a Staffordshire Terrier, was gray-and-white, according to the police. Santa Monica Animal Control can be reached at (310) 458-8595 if you know more.
