For almost a year, Bear, a Cane Corso dog, roamed the streets of Mobile, Alabama, his head wedged in a plastic box.
He refused to allow anyone to approach him since he was so afraid, which made the rescue effort much more challenging.
Additionally, Bear was too large for the traps to work on him.
The animal control officers from the Mobile County Animal Shelter and the City of Mobile Animal Services joined forces to save this large youngster in what appears to be the largest rescue effort in Mobile.
A Mission To Rescue Bear
Over the course of several months, Bear, a Cane Corso dog, was seen strolling the streets of Alabama several times while wearing a big plastic box.
Outside of local parks and restaurants, the box seemed to be the top of a trash can. Bear’s head got stuck in the trash when he was presumably searching for food.
With a massive box on his head that must have made it difficult for him to eat and drink, it was a true miracle that he lived for so long.
One of the generous citizens of the City of Mobile eventually alerted the authorities after he had been carrying the box on his head for months, and they promptly planned a massive rescue effort.
The animal shelter employees and animal control officers were eventually able to remove the plastic box from Bear’s head thanks to this incredible team.
Regretfully, even though they were able to remove the box, they were unable to quickly attach a leash on Bear, who fled in terror. They weren’t giving up, though.
Bear was eventually apprehended and transferred to the city’s shelter after a massive operation that involved multiple individuals.
He is treated like a king and is adored by the staff. One of the rescue volunteers, Martin Miller, posted on social media that he is really lovely and has a long and happy life ahead of him.
Bear Has Been Adopted
Although Bear’s rescue effort garnered a lot of publicity, he was placed on a stray hold and not quite available for adoption for the first few days.
Bear truly came out of his shell and became friendly with a volunteer who chose to apply for his adoption while he was at the shelter.
It is always a major deal to try to find a nice home for a dog that has received this much attention. Many people are going to want to take him home. Robert Bryant, the director of animal services for the City of Mobile, told WKRG, “In this specific instance, we started to think about it, and really, who better than one of the team members who spent so much time trying to get him off the streets in the first place?”
Bear genuinely loves his new father, Martin Miller, and is now formally a member of the Miller family.
Bear will never be alone again after spending so much time alone.Bear will remain near the shelter and the rescue community that spent a lot of time caring for him, which is an incredible aspect of this adoption.
Together with his new father, Bear will spend the days at the shelter advocating for the adoption of stray animals as a new ambassador for the City of Mobile Animal Services.
Thousands of people have been moved by his predicament, but perhaps Bear will only experience happiness going forward.
