Laurie Sanchez-Guzman knew she had to don her cape and be her hero the moment she learned about a small stray puppy living in a filthy ditch and wondering the streets.
Despite the fact that several rescuers had already tried to save the adorable girl, Sanchez-Guzman, who had worked extensively with D & A Animal Rescue, a Texas rescue group, knew a few tactics that might work where others had failed.
Furthermore, a favorable result was already assured because you can achieve anything you set your mind to.
One For The Win
Sanchez-Guzman’s heart shattered into a million pieces when she finally got to meet the puppy.
The puppy, who was subsequently given the name Valentina, had fur that was clumped into uncomfortable mats and was entirely covered in mud. Additionally, the rescuer observed some problems with her ears and sight, supposing that they were likely infected.
It was clear that this lovely girl was in dire need of medical care. Even though she was aware of this, the unfamiliar human nevertheless gave her a lot of anxiety.
Easy Does It
The rescuer chose to go slowly so as not to frighten Valentina any more.
She initially kept a safe distance, giving the dog some delicious treats while she waited for him to feel at ease around her.Furthermore, the rescuer realized that she needed to move more quickly even if they were making amazing progress over time.
Time was not on my side. A severe storm was about to fall, and I had to return to my town to pick up my child from school. I had to take severe measures. Sanchez-Guzman told The Dodo, “I just grabbed her from her back fur and pushed her inside a crate as fast as I could while she was eating close to me.”
At first, Valentina wasn’t particularly fond of her new residence. She forbade anyone from approaching her, much less touching her. Despite her dire need for a spa day, this dog was still very feisty, indicating that she had not had a good experience with humans.
Fortunately, as the days passed, Valentina came to understand that these humans were the nice ones, so she decided to become best friends with her rescuer—and she did!
The Texas rescuer was able to take the puppy to the veterinarian and the groomer because of their newfound affection. When she was finished, Valentina looked like a brand-new puppy, even though she wasn’t a huge fan of all the new faces.
She began to express her true self, and I discovered that she was highly motivated by food and social engagement. What a tough cookie she was! Because she was made of pure muscle, taking care of her in my foster home with other fosters was a little difficult. However, she settled into a pattern and was content when she had her alone time. She said she was a survivor, a real fighter, and an incredible dog.
A New Life
For over a year, Sanchez-Guzman chose to foster the adorable Valentina. Many generous people contacted her during this time, interested in adopting Valentina. Regretfully, they simply weren’t compatible.
Because we knew she needed a dedicated and experienced adopter who saw that she was a warrior in a petite and adorable body, we repeatedly turned down the numerous applications from people hoping to adopt her, Sanchez-Guzman said.
She looked for a while before finding a family she knew would be able to care for the puppy.
Valentina did require some time to get used to the new people and environment, but her family was very kind and committed to providing her with a comfortable existence.
In the present day, this tiny angel is leading the greatest existence imaginable.
Her family adores her despite her tendency to be a bit of a spitfire. She is the kindest, happiest girl alive!
