On Wednesday, at around 3:15 p.m., dispatch received a call regarding a collision involving two vehicles on Plainville’s Route 495 South.
When personnel arrived, they found two cars in the breakdown lane.
Rhode Island Hospital received the driver of the severely damaged car shown above. The second driver was unharmed but suffered moderate damage.
Crews from Foxborough and Plainville arrived on the scene.
At around 4:30 p.m., the Massachusetts Department of Transportation reported that there were delays of about six miles on I-495 southbound at Plainville’s exit 36. Before all lanes were eventually opened, lane closures were in place while the collision was being cleaned up.
According to Brandon Lanctot, despite some minor wounds and bumps, he was able to leave the hospital. He described the crash to Fall River Reporter.
I was driving 60 mph in the middle lane on 495 South. In front of me, a white automobile in the far-right lane braked and swerved. To avoid colliding with the back of the entire automobile, I quickly used the brakes, threw on my directional aid, and swerved sharply to the far-left lane. Something hit me HARD as I swerved, sending me hurtling down 495. I was awake the entire time, though I can’t remember how many times I rolled. Although I didn’t wear a seatbelt, I believe it saved my life. I found myself sitting in the passenger seat. minor bruising and cuts. A little after 7 p.m. last night, I was taken to RI Hospital, checked out, and released. I was by myself. I was alone.
In light of what may have been, Lanctot said he and his family are content.
We agree with that.
