Rhode Island Police Department announces tragic loss and untimely death of veteran officer

Following the unexpected death of one of their own, police stations throughout the state of Rhode Island are expressing their sympathies.

With great sorrow and a heavy heart, Chief Eric Rollinson has announced the untimely death of a member of the Scituate Police Department.

On Monday, news broke of the sudden passing of Sgt. Jason Riquier, a 23-year veteran of the Scituate Police Department and a former member of the US Marine Corps.

The department is grieving the death of Sgt. Riquier, a beloved and treasured member of the Scituate Police family, Rollinson said.

Riquier, 47, was discovered dead after being reported missing.

Although a criminal act is not suspected, the death is being investigated.

On Tuesday, police departments started sending condolence messages to the Scituate Police Department via social media.
