All his life, Gilbert has been a real warrior!

This proud Chi has maintained his lively sparkle despite his diminutive size, which is likely what has kept him on his toes for so long.

He experienced homelessness multiple times. Only three days after his adoption, he was turned over to a shelter the last time. Because he made the other dog envious, his previous owner no longer wanted him. Gilbert so lost his house once more!

However, Aimee entered this elderly man’s life just when it appeared that he would never experience familial love again!

Gilbert s Been A Fighter His Entire Life

After seeing Gilbertas on a shelter website, Aimee Burton, a dog trainer from San Diego, California, fell in love with him. However, by the time she applied for him, he had already been adopted into a new family.

Before receiving a call three days later, she believed that was all there was to it. Gilbert’s adoptive family apparently no longer wanted him since their other dog was envious of him.

This time, Aimee acted without hesitation and hurried to bring this incredible boi home.

Later on, she found out that Gilbert was first discovered in Lancaster, California, as a stray dog. His past remains unclear to this day, but his survival on the streets for so long was a real miracle. Gilbert has always been a real fighter, even though he barely weighs 4.8 pounds!

There is a lot of animals, including foxes and coyotes. It’s a little out there. “It was pretty crazy that he survived,” Aimee recalls.

From Being Unwanted To A Forever Home

Gilbert was quiet and reserved over the first few days. This small man’s lack of trust was very understandable given his past experiences, but Aimee was patient.

She made sure he had all the comfort he required and gradually introduced him to her other dogs. For the first time in a new home, he showed his true self a few days later when he emerged from his shell and began interacting with his new siblings!

Gilbert was so content and eager to enjoy the life he had always desired, even at his advanced age! Despite having teeth problems, a failing trachea, and a poor knee, he still manages to be the head of the household!

Gilbert literally attracts the attention of every dog, and despite lacking the endurance of his younger siblings, he is still a proud member of the pack!

He occasionally stands on the front porch and gives his mom’s other dogs the saddest face ever when she takes them for a walk, but as soon as they return, he returns to his lively self!

Aimee adores Gilbert in every way, but waking him up is undoubtedly her favorite part of the day!

He has the prettiest eyes and the cutest smile, which make her day! He always gives her the impression that he is eager to embark on the most exciting adventure of the day.

He has a few peculiarities of his own, but that just makes him unique! He exclusively walks on tarmac and dirt, eats lettuce, and stays off of grass.

Sometimes, he even gets territorial and gums his housemates, which is hilarious, as he only has three teeth and cannot really hurt anyone.

At the end of the day, Gilbert’s greatest love is comfort. He loves snuggling next to his mom, and just enjoys her presence the most.
