For teacher Alex Peterson, it was just another Saturday morning. The weekend finally arrived. She planned to utilize it to engage in the things that make her happy, which she finds difficult to fit in during hectic workdays.
She had no idea, though, that this weekend would be a little longer than normal. The email she got from the assistant principle of her school that day was the first sign of this.
Specifically, a wild animal entered the school through a ceiling tile and had no intention of leaving. Alex assumed that everything would be resolved quickly because she lives in Colorado, where encounters with wild animals are common.
She was prepared for a surprise, though.
An Unexpected Guest
Later that day, Alex learned that their school had a raccoon on the free and that they needed to capture it by Monday in order to resume lessons. Even though it was Saturday, Alex was certain that the school staff would have resolved the animal issue by then.
She was certain that she would go back to work on Monday, so she spent the Saturday having fun and not worrying about that incident. On Sunday, though, she discovered that things become more complicated and that it would be harder than she initially anticipated.
The building was locked for the whole weekend when we received a second email on Sunday stating that raccoons are more difficult to capture than first thought, Alex added.
Later that night, Alex unexpectedly received another email informing her that lessons would be postponed on Monday since they had not yet been able to capture the raccoon.
Even while these tiny animals are adorable, they may be extremely dangerous if confronted, especially since they can bite and spread the rabies virus.
Therefore, it is usually preferable to employ well-considered methods to keep raccoons away rather than letting them wander freely close to homes, schools, or other public areas.
But Alex still couldn’t believe this whole thing. Alex never imagined that she would have a raccoon day until that point, when the school was closed due to a snow day.
“I was laughing,” Alex remarked.I texted everyone I thought would find this news funny to let them know that tomorrow was Raccoon Day, so school would not be held. We got an unexpected day off, so I also texted one of my coworkers right away to ask if she wanted to go hiking and another to see if she wanted to go have coffee.
We had to make the most of the unexpected day off!
Finally Arrested
You can only imagine how thrilled the kids were when Alex and her coworkers thoroughly enjoyed their unplanned day off.
The unfortunate one that day, though, was a small raccoon that the staff eventually succeeded in bringing to justice.
That was the end of this three-day ordeal. However, everyone was happy in the end; the teachers and children enjoyed the nicest Monday ever, and the raccoon was soon released into the forest.
Sometimes, in ways we can’t even fathom, animals may genuinely bring us joy.
