Good morning, everyone! A powerful storm system is developing, bringing heavy snow and blizzard conditions to parts of Colorado, Nebraska, and Kansas. At the same time, severe thunderstorms are expected in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi.

Blizzard Warnings in Colorado, Nebraska, and Kansas

While snowfall amounts may not be extreme, strong winds and poor visibility will create dangerous blizzard conditions. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued Blizzard Warnings for:

  • Northeast Colorado
  • Northwest Kansas
  • A large part of Nebraska, including North Platte

Winds could reach 65 mph, causing whiteout conditions and making travel extremely dangerous. These conditions will worsen late Tuesday night and continue into Wednesday morning.

Severe Thunderstorms and Tornado Threat in the South

In the warmer part of the storm system, severe thunderstorms will develop. The risk begins Tuesday morning in East Texas and East Oklahoma, then moves toward Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi by the afternoon.
