For dogs, their favorite human is the center of the universe. They are therefore happiest when they are in a cozy house with a family that loves them and won’t let them down until the very end.
Unfortunately, that isn’t always the case, and many dogs suffer heartbreak when their favorite people leave them just when they need them most.
These helpless beings find it particularly difficult to be placed between the four walls of a kennel after spending the majority of their lives with a loving family. We hear a lot of these stories these days, and today is no exception.
The response from the shelter employees who brought this puppy to their facility is the clearest evidence that it is, in fact, one of the most tragic.
He Was Suddenly All Alone
Rooney, a seven-year-old dog, has never known what it’s like to be abandoned in a shelter because he has lived his entire existence in a loving family. Unfortunately, his family abandoned him in a nearby shelter after he turned seven, forcing him to experience what it really felt like.
Lone Star Dog Ranch & Dog Ranch Rescue’s Facebook post claims that Rooney’s family decided to get rid of him since they were expecting a child. It was mentioned in the picture below that the owner was no longer able to provide him with adequate care.
That’s how poor Rooney ended himself in a dark area of the shelter, surrounded by strangers and a lot of other dogs that were just as scared as he was.
According to the article, which highlighted the condition of that shelter, dogs are able to detect the terror in the facility and the [euthanasia] of dogs that must be put down because of the extreme space shortage that every single shelter is facing.
Rooney’s entire world collapsed in a single day, and he was unable to find joy anyplace. Suddenly, his future was in jeopardy.
Fortunately, nice folks from Anna, Texas-based Dog Ranch Rescue, a non-profit organization, learned about him and took action. Soon after, Ricky, one of their staff members, was in route to the shelter where Rooney was experiencing his most trying times.
They Were Furious
Ricky took Rooney in his arms as soon as he arrived at the shelter, got him into the car, and drove them to their Anna, Texas, location. The staff was devastated when Ricky eventually took him there and they noticed the dog’s sad expression.
But the melancholy and hopelessness quickly gave way to utter rage. Their Facebook post was the clearest example of that.
The author of this piece also spoke directly to Rooney’s previous owner, sharing with him all that was inside of him.
I’m always curious if standing in line made you feel horrible. Did you notice his expression as you turned to leave, wondering, “What the hell?” Five minutes later—did you forget about him? Perhaps ten minutes? It was said.
The shelter officials greeted Rooney at the end of the post and said they would find him a new home and someone who wouldn’t mislead him like his prior owner had.
Even if Rooney is still healing from a severe injury to his soul, we wish him luck in overcoming all the challenges and coming out on top. The least this elderly dog deserves is at least seven more years of contentment in a loving home with people who will genuinely care for and respect him.
