WESTPORT Westport Community Schools Superintendent Thomas F. Aubin has announced his retirement.

Aubin announced his choice in a letter on Friday.

I regret to inform you that, as of June 30, 2025, when my present contract expires, I will be retiring as superintendent of schools. After 41 years of teaching, I’ve made the decision to start a new chapter in my life.

During my time here, I have had the privilege of working with an amazing group of teachers, staff, students, and families. By working together, we have achieved significant progress in improving student support services, promoting academic success, and building a strong sense of community throughout our schools. Being an advocate for our students and helping our district continue to succeed has been an honor.

As my contract comes to an end, I’m still totally dedicated to making sure everything goes well and keeping up the good work in our area. In the months to come, I will put in a lot of effort to help our schools, professors, and families while also helping to choose my successor.

I would want to express my sincere appreciation to the whole Westport community for your cooperation, commitment, and support of our students. I’m excited to celebrate our group’s accomplishments during my remaining time as superintendent.

I appreciate the chance to work for this amazing district.

After serving as the Westport Community Schools’ interim superintendent since October 2020, Aubin was unanimously elected to the post in March 2021. Prior to taking on the role on July 1, 2020, he was the associate superintendent and principal of Westport Jr./Sr. High School.

The district was getting ready to move into the last phase of the Westport Middle-High School Building Project, and Superintendent Aubin was given the responsibility of managing the project, which led to his appointment as assistant superintendent.

Prior to this, Superintendent Aubin was the dean of students for the Greater Fall River Vocational School District, its superintendent/director, and its vocational coordinator for 13 years.

He has previously worked for the Massachusetts School Building Authority and was the assistant principal of Middleborough High School for two years.

Superintendent Aubin graduated from Southeastern Massachusetts University (UMASS Dartmouth) with a bachelor’s degree in history and Fitchburg State College with a master’s degree in educational leadership.

He has also held positions on the boards of the Bristol County Chamber of Commerce/Education, the Bristol County Office of Economic Development, and the Massachusetts Association of Vocational Administrators. He received the Diman Administrators Association’s Teacher of the Year Award in 1998.
