Teen Charged with Attempted Murder After High School Football Game Shooting in Wayne
A 16-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder following a shooting at a high school football game in Wayne, New Jersey. The incident occurred on Friday night at Passaic County Technical Institute (PCTI) shortly after the school’s season-opening victory against Lenape High School.
The shooting left two teenage girls, aged 16 and 15, hospitalized. Eyewitnesses reported hearing between seven and ten gunshots during the incident, which took place around 7:30 p.m. One witness described seeing a teenage couple arguing before the boy shot one of the girls. The second victim may have been uninvolved in the argument.
Passaic County prosecutors confirmed that sheriff’s officers were present at the game and quickly located the victims. Both girls were treated for gunshot wounds and are expected to survive.
The 16-year-old suspect was apprehended that night and charged as a juvenile with first-degree attempted murder and two second-degree weapons offenses. The case is being processed in county family court.
No students from Lenape High School were involved in the incident. A spokesperson for the school expressed their concern for the victims and extended support to the PCTI community.
