This decision comes amidst a political standoff between Texas and federal authorities, with Republican governors from across the United States backing Texas Governor Greg Abbott in his efforts.
Governor Bill Lee met with deploying National Guard members in Millington, Tennessee, underscoring his state’s commitment to supporting Texas in what has become an increasingly politicized border crisis.
Governor Lee had previously visited the border and pledged solidarity with Governor Abbott, who has received widespread support from fellow Republican governors. In January, nearly all U.S. Republican governors signed a statement affirming Texas’s constitutional right to defend itself in matters of border security.
The Texas National Guard had previously taken control of a key border crossing in Eagle Pass and implemented measures to restrict federal immigration officials and Border Patrol agents from the area. However, the U.S. Supreme Court intervened, reaffirming the federal government’s authority over border enforcement.

Major General Warner Ross, speaking on behalf of the Tennessee National Guard, refrained from disclosing specific deployment locations but emphasized the state’s commitment to supporting Texas in its border security efforts.
