Rescuers frequently encounter dogs who have experienced some form of trauma at the hands of humans. Some situations, nevertheless, go too far.
Some dogs have endured so much abuse at the hands of others that they are unable to even look their rescuers in the eyes.
When they first met Jindo, the staff at this shelter was in a similar predicament. He was a very sweet dog who had experienced a terrible event that had a significant impact on his mental health.
Despite being horrified by his condition, his rescuers made the decision to try to assist him get over his ordeal.
He Couldn t Look Them In The Eye
The extent of Jindo’s mental scars was evident to the rescuers when they first approached him at the refuge.He would attempt to get away if someone approached.
In their presence, he would simply begin to panic no matter what they tried. They saw his teary eyes and felt horrible for him. Who could have mistreated this helpless dog?
They attempted to feed him, but he largely disregarded everything they put in his vicinity. He simply couldn’t have any faith in them.
Jindo never ventured to fight his rescuers because he was afraid of what might happen, yet occasionally he would bark at them in fright. That says a lot about his experiences.
In an attempt to help him relax, the staff tried chatting to him, but even after three weeks, Jindo’s condition hadn’t improved.
Someone at the shelter proposed that they place a protective cap on Jindo’s head after they attempted to feed him but he continued to reject them. That might be useful.
When they did that, he began eating from their hand, which surprised him. This puzzled everyone, but they were glad that he was gradually beginning to trust his rescuers.
He was improving every day, and everyone was pleased about it. Jindo was still a little reluctant, but he would even let his rescuers pet him.
A New Chapter In Jindo s Life
His rescuers were simply pleased to see that he was evolving, despite the fact that improvement would be gradual.
After nearly four months, Jindo was comfortable enough to leave his kennel and socialize with the other dogs.
When the staff decided it would be a good idea to start taking Jindo on short walks about the shelter while wearing a leash, they were shocked to find that he remained composed the entire time.
With every day that went by, his confidence increased as they trained him to move around more. He was getting much more lively and gaining weight.
Around his rescuers, Jindo is quite happy, and they are really proud of the development he has made in the five months that he has been in their care. These days, he is much more gregarious, especially with other animals.
He was able to gradually restore his faith in other people despite the long period of mistreatment.
Even though it took a long time, it’s reassuring to know that Jindo can finally live a reasonably normal life.
Not much is known about his future or whether he has found a forever home with one of his rescuers, but one thing is certain: he is now a content dog who has finally received the second chance he has sorely deserved.
