Brittany Richard, a 33-year-old mother of two, tragically lost her life after being stabbed nine times while defending her younger cousin at a Texas City sports bar. The heartbreaking incident occurred in the early hours of August 30 at the Time Out Sports Bar #5, leaving her family devastated and seeking answers.

According to the Texas City Police Department, the altercation began when Brittany’s younger cousin was attacked by two women as she exited the restroom. Without hesitation, Brittany rushed to defend her cousin, only to be fatally stabbed in the process. Her mother, Shametria Richard, was unable to reach the hospital in time to say goodbye. When she finally touched her daughter’s body, Shametria recalls that Brittany was already cold.

“No one’s child deserves to die like that, no one,” Shametria said. “And it’s wrong, it was horrific, and it was just terrible.”

Brittany’s accused attacker, 35-year-old Shynice Felder, is the girlfriend of Brittany’s estranged husband. The stabbing took place on the very day Brittany was supposed to sign divorce papers, adding another layer of tragedy to the incident. The family shared that there had been no prior altercations between Brittany and Felder, and the attack seemed unprovoked.

Felder was arrested in Houston shortly after the incident and has been charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. She is currently being held at the Galveston County Jail with a bond set at $450,000. In addition to taking Brittany’s life, Felder is also accused of injuring one of Brittany’s cousins during the altercation.

Brittany was more than just a victim of a senseless crime; she was a loving mother to two children, ages 13 and 9, and a dedicated employee of the City of La Marque, where she worked as an accountant. Her death has left a void in the lives of her family, friends, and colleagues.

“We’re just trying to hold on to our last memories of being happy, loving on each other,” said her cousin Mikeshia Turner. “And we just want justice.”

In response to the tragedy, the family has planned a vigil to honor Brittany’s memory, set to take place next Thursday at her workplace. Brittany’s funeral will be held on September 14. The family has also created a GoFundMe page to assist with funeral expenses and to help support her two children.
